Air gaging is one of Edmunds' core measurement technologies. We have developed a two-master, back-pressure bleed system which is the most accurate air gaging method to use. Specific information about the history of air gaging, how it works, the various systems, and our wide range of tooling may be found in our catalog which you can download or view right now from this page. You can also link to particular air gaging product pages or an air gage ordering worksheet.
Edmunds Air Plugs are designed for back-pressure bleed, back-pressure, flow and differential systems. Styles are available for deep hole, shallow hole, thru-hole, blind-hole and close-to-shoulder applications. Sizes range from .120 inches (3.05mm) to and including 6.010 inches (152.65mm). Our leaf contact design, in sizes ranging from .573 inches (14.55mm) to 6.010 inches (152.65mm), is ideal for parts with inconsistent surface finishes.
Air Rings for back-pressure bleed, back-pressure, flow and differential systems have inner rings - the gaging surface - manufactured of hardened steel, chrome plate or carbide. Outer rings are aluminum for lighter weight comfort in hand-held gaging. Thru-hole and close-to-shoulder styles are available in a variety of sizes, and with 2 to 6 nozzles, depending on dimensions. Sizes range from .120 inches (3.05mm) to and including 6.010 inches (152.65mm).
Edmunds Air Snap tooling is custom designed for difficult to reach or between centers diameter measurements. They may be designed to gage a part while it is engaged in the machine tool. Edmunds Air Snaps feature durable tungsten carbide rest pads for long wear, and a lightweight aluminum handle. They may be designed for use with all air gaging systems, and are available with up to three circuits. A vee-type backstop may also be specified.
Gaging at .0000001" resolution
Twin-head gage block comparators and universal internal/external comparators are a vital part of our product line. Gage calibration services, too – either in our Sub-Millionths Laboratory or on-site at your facility – are yours for the asking. Why use Edmunds metrology products and services? Our comparators are considered the "lab standard" by the top metrology laboratories in the world. In fact, many refer them as the "gold" standard both for their premier quality and their attractive, metallic gold finish.
Gage Block Comparators
Our 20" twin-head gage block comparator answered a great need in the industry for an ultra-precise comparator that could handle blocks from 0 to 20" – the full range of a standard set of gage blocks. For users who don't need the full range, we offer the same benefits in our smaller comparator for up to 4" blocks. It offers a choice of readout resolutions as small as .0000001" (one tenth of one millionth of an inch). Our exclusive step cam allows swift calibration of Metric or English blocks.
Universal Internal/External Comparator
Our Universal Internal/External Comparator is the backbone of many calibration labs around the world. It's primarily used to calibrate class X, XX, and XXX master rings and precision parts. It offers a wide capacity internal measurement range of .040" - 12"; external up to 11" and superb repeatability and accuracy within .000001".
For our Universal/External Comparators...
Want to check repeatability, calibration and linearity easily? Use this convenient kit specially made for our universal comparators which includes a set of three class XXX ring gages.
Our extended range finger sets allow you to measure internal diameters from .040" (1.00mm) to 13.25" (337mm).
